Whisperer

“I could tell that I was at the gateway of a region half-bewitched through the piling-up of unbroken time-accumulations; a region where old, strange things have had a chance to grow and linger because they have never been stirred up.”

Based on the H. P. Lovecraft story The Whisperer in Darkness.

Penny, a science student at a university in the 1930s, receives a strange recording from her estranged adoptive father Henry, his first contact with her for several years. After taking the recording to her professor Albert, she discovers her father’s belief that he has captured the sound of unnatural forces in the woods surrounding his property. When Albert doesn’t return from a visit to Henry, Penny returns to her childhood home to come to terms with a dark, unfathomable power that will reshape her forever.

A story centered around a fear of the other, the dangers of entitlement, the corrosive nature of obsession with status, and the question of what we owe to the generation that precedes us, and those that follow.
